I found your car model listed in my usual resources but they are severely lacking in information. There's no listings for engine sensors so I have to guess your car is similar to most others in that it uses a camshaft position sensor and a crankshaft position sensor. Those are the two that provide the signals that tell the computer the engine is rotating. If a mouse chewed through the wires for one of them, typically you'll have no spark, and the fuel pump will not resume running when you start cranking the engine. If you DO have spark, try squirting in some starting fluid to see if the engine runs for a few seconds. If it does, that would suggest the crank and cam sensors are working, and again, the immobilizer is the cause of the no-start. Are you in Australia. I searched on eBay for a service manual. A '91 was the newest I found, but almost all the other parts are in Australia. I found pictures too. Your car model looks more like a car than most of the ugly stuff they've been producing here in the U.S. For the last 15 years. I can't even find a listing for Holden on the online service manual companies. Perhaps you can get one through a dealer near you. Most service manuals have a section that describes how various systems work and how to diagnose them. That might be the most productive way to get the problem solved. I also saw a reference to a no-start being caused by a dead battery in the remote. A lot of keys have computer chips in them to trigger the anti-theft system to let the engine start. It sounds like your remote is working, but that reference didn't say if there were any other symptoms or observations. Subsequent series became larger, culminating with the fourth generation Commodore, fully developed in Australia and based on the GM Zeta platform. From 1984, Holden began branding the flagship model as Holden Calais, with the Commodore Berlina introduced in 1984 gaining independent Holden Berlina nomenclature in 1988. The third generation architecture spawned the most body styles, with a new Holden utility launched in 2000 (now officially as the Holden Ute ), reborn Monaro coupe in 2001, four-door Holden Crewman utility and all-wheel drive (AWD) Holden Adventra crossover in 2003. Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) in 1987 began official modification of high performance variants of the Commodore and its derivatives, under its own nameplate.Prior to the second generation Commodore of 1988, the Holden was positioned a full class below the full-size Falcon. To varying degrees, competition also came from mid-size offerings from Toyota Australia as well as Chrysler Australia, which morphed into Mitsubishi Motors Australia. Moreover, between 1989 and 1997, Australian federal government policy saw the launch of the Toyota Lexcen, which was a rebadged version of the second generation Commodore. With the introduction of the third generation in 1997, Holden implemented its largest export programs involving Commodore and its derivatives. In the Middle East, South Africa and Brazil, the Commodore sold as a Chevrolet. High-performance export versions followed in North America, sold as Pontiac and later Chevrolet. HSV also exported to the United Kingdom as Vauxhall, in the Middle East as Chevrolet Special Vehicles (CSV) and in New Zealand and Singapore as HSV.This did not put an end to Holden's monetary woes. The new car cut its predecessor's weight by 75 kg (165 lb) and models were fitted with an upgraded braking system.Designers distanced the Commodore further away from its Opel origins, by smoothing the lines of the outer body and incorporating a subtle tail spoiler.

However, public outcry persuaded them to relent. In 1988, it would still be some years before airbags became available to the public on vehicles manufactured in Australia, and, outside of the very high end luxury market, available in Australia at all. As air bag technology later become more available, the Holden Commodore would become one of the first to offer the option (see VR Commodore below). However, this time, the floor plan was widened and stretched; now matching the rival Ford Falcon for size. The original T1 Lexcen offered sedan and station wagon body forms in three levels of trim: base, GL and GLX.The T2 (VP) Lexcen from 1991 pioneered new specification designations: CSi, VXi and Newport. The Ecotec engine packed 13 percent more power for a total of 147 kW (197 hp), cut fuel consumption by 5 percent, increased the compression ratio from 9.0:1 to 9.4:1 and improved on the engine's previous rough characteristics. Similar in specification to the Calais also sold in New Zealand, the Royale featured a standard VS Commodore body with the front end from the VS Caprice and an Opel 2.6-litre 54-Degree V6 engine. The proposal was to take the Opel Omega B and broaden the vehicle's width and mechanical setup for local conditions.Extensive research was undertaken to reduce the effects from a side-impact collision through modification of the B-pillars.A revised steering system and tweaked suspension tuning were among some of the changes to sharpen handling precision. This repositioning in turn affected the Berlina's standing. The system was only available in combination with the V8 and automatic transmission. Holden chose not to spend extra engineering resources on adapting the AWD system to the 3.8-litre V6, due to be replaced in the upcoming VZ model. The rollout of such modifications allowed the VE range to be upgraded in stages (dependent on model) to the five-star ANCAP safety rating during 2008 and 2009.

The major difference saw the introduction of the Holden iQ system, a centre-mounted LCD display that provides navigation, Bluetooth, and controls to the stereo. There were also small alterations to the styling and a number of other changes.Changes to the model line-up see the deletion of the Berlina nameplate (which was merged with the standard Calais variant, represented the smallest share of sales in Commodore's line-up) and the base model renamed from Omega to Evoke. This decision was made on the basis of a survey revealing that a majority of customers were in favour of retaining the long-standing Australian badge introduced in 1978.The 2018 Commodore was to be offered with four or six-cylinder engine options, as well as front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel drive. This is a major departure from the V8 and rear wheel drive variants available on the previous generation Commodore. It is based on the second-generation Opel Insignia.Whilst the decision has been considered to be a safe choice in order to preserve sales, the retention of the Commodore name has been critiqued for Holden missing the opportunity to rebrand its sedan range and push its offering into the more lucrative semi-premium end of the market.Vauxhall VXR8 sales began in 2007. Versions have also been previously exported in the mid-1990s to Southeast Asia as the Opel Calais and to North America from 2008 to 2009 as the Pontiac G8. From 2014 to 2017, the VF Commodore was sold in the United States as the Chevrolet SS and the sport version from HSV sold in the United Kingdom as the Vauxhall VXR8.In Arabia, the Lumina was offered in four different trims: LS (Omega), LTZ (Berlina), S (SV6) and SS (SS). The LTZ and S comes standard with a 3.6 L Alloytec V6 and a 6-speed automatic transmission for the S and 4-speed for the LTZ, while the SS comes standard with 6.0 L Alloytec V8 with the option of Active Fuel management. A 6-speed manual is standard with the option of a 6-speed Automatic on SS.

The LTZ was the luxury model, while the S and SS models focused on sportiness.Fuel injection and a high 10.4:1 compression ratio help contribute to a max power output of 270 kW (362 hp) at 5700 rpm, and a max torque of 530 N?m (391 lb?ft) at 4400 rpm for vehicles equipped with the manual. Automatic cars made 260 kW (349 hp) at 5800 rpm and 517 N?m (381 lb?ft) at 4400 rpm. All cars were equipped with Brembo brake callipers and a ZF limited-slip differential. The car received updates for the 2011 model year. These changes were introduced to coincide with the release of the VE Series II Commodore. Changes include revised bumpers, there is a chrome moulding above the number plate on the boot lid, refreshed alloy wheel designs and the Holden IQ system.Officially, Holden's performance partner is HSV, although other prominent high performance brands include HDT Special Vehicles, Corsa Specialized Vehicles (CSV) and Walkinshaw Performance (WP), since the first, third and fourth generation Commodore, respectively. His plans involve buying the Holden production facilities, with a view to continue producing in Australia a rebadged range of RWD and AWD premium vehicles based on the GM Zeta platform, for local and export sales.Retrieved 15 June 2007. I don't have time to type it all out again. If you want to send it to me I can do it for you for free, you just pay postage both ways. I've done hundreds of them.Go to your local locksmith (or if you have to, a MrMinit) and they will code a new barrell to your key when they sell it to you.Its still working but the key will not return back when you start the car. So you have to turn the key back so the starter motor isn't engaged. Go to your local locksmith (or if you have to, a MrMinit) and they will code a new barrell to your key when they sell it to you.Unless the barrel is binding - sticking it may be the ignition switch that is faulty. Are there any other problems with the barrel and key besides it not returning after starting. If the barrel is binding you can try some powdered Graphite in the barrel, you can buy it at most auto shops,it's cheap and comes in a puffer pack.

Just puff a small amount in and work the key in and out and turn the key a few times to work it in,repeat if necessary. Note: Never use WD40,CRC or other wet spray lubricants, they will stuff it right up.On the back of the ignition is a contact assembly, the key unlocks and allows the key to travel further and turn the contact assembly. Its much the same as any rotating switch inside, contacts and a arm that turns over them. Point being the key assembly is separate to the switch, the shaft from the key assembly turns the rod driving the switch. I have not opened up a Holden one, however on most other cars ive worked on the whole key assembly can be removed (consult a Holden forum or workshop manual) and the electrical contact switch can be removed and replaced separately. In many cases ive managed to open the contact switches to find the contact points inside burnt, a bit of a sandpaper or file to clean up the contacts, a bit of a bend of the terminal to make a better connection usually worked, if you fail just get another switch, just reuse your old key assembly so you don't need new keys. Knowing how persistent you are and your electronics background, id say you will try fixing it first. One more thing mate.if its your starter motor solenoid that is sticking it will do the same thing. Your ignition switch gives power to the starter solenoid when you turn the key all the way (the part of the end of key travel that's spring loaded), the solenoid then kicks forward at the starter and makes some contacts inside the starter to operate. If the starters solenoid is farked it will behave like a stuffed ignition barrel. In the old days when a starters soliniod was sticking we use to just whack it a few times with a hammer to get the cars started, next time, try giving it a whack, if it always starts after being hit, if say its your starter.

Another check to see if it is your starter is there are 2 terminals going to it, one is the big main positive lead from your battery, the other is a smaller lead, the smaller lead is the one coming from your ignition barrel which fires up your starter. 2 things to look at, throw a multi onto the small lead and see if your getting 12v when someone turns the key all the way like your trying to start it, OR, get a wire, run it from your battery positive to the terminal, it should start the startermotor cranking the engine. Might even be an idea to run a wire from the small starter terminal into the engine bay, when it wont start turn your ignition on, pop the bonnet and just touch the wire on your battery positive will get the engine cranking if it is your ignition switch burnt out inside, basically your doing what your ignition barrel is supposed to be doing, giving the solenoid power just like when your holding the key all the way to start cranking. Next week ill tell you how to hot wire and steal a Commodore, think of all the spare parts you can have for free. The key fob and the BCM (body Control Module) communicate to varify it is the correct key for the vehicle. If the vehicle is unlocked with the remote, it does not need to read the key to start until a predetermined time when the vehicle will passively arm. After it has passively armed, the key will need to be read before it will start. Does it crank over but not start,or does it do nothing at all when you turn the key. There is a red flashing padlock on the dash when the vehicle is locked or it passively arms itself. Is this light flashing still when you try to start. If you unlock the car with the button this light should go out and the key does not have to be read by the key reader to start, unless you are too slow and it passively arms. Most people who have this problem only notice it when starting a vehicle that has been left unlocked,eg sitting in the car with the ignition off while waiting for a mate.

It's very simple for you to see if this is your problem. Just see if the padlock is flashing when trying to start it.If it won't start, turn the ignition off, push the unlock button (even though it is unlocked) and try to start it again. Hope this helps,if not let me know. The spring is in the switch and the switch is a sealed unit,it is not a widespread problem but it does happen. If you remove the steering shroud you can remove the switch,it is held in place with 2 tiny screws which are usually torx or flat head type. Once the switch is out you can turn the key in the barrel to make sure it's not binding at all, then you can put a flat blade screwdriver into the switch to make sure it springs back from the start position. Sometimes the spigot on the end of the barrel that turns the switch is porous from the manufacturing process and can go out of shape before finally breaking, this can also cause the barrel and switch to bind. When the spigot breaks off (usually in the on position) you cannot turn the ignition off. For this reason, the spigot should always be checked when a key isn't returning to the on position after starting.Your problem is either in the key reader circuit in the car,or the contact pin and circuit in the key head. When you turn the key, make sure that the contact is rubbing firmly on the ring.If it's not,try pushing the key into the barrel while turning to see if it makes contact.Does yours have the solid round reader ring or the one with 2 segments. If it's the one with 2 segments these have a locating groove to locate them, but they can sometimes slip around meaning that the key contact doesn't contact when it should. If the key reader ring is all good and making good contact when starting, the problem could be in the key head circuitry or the 2 metal clips that hold the contact pin could be spread apart and not making good contact.(This is inside the key head on the circuit board).

It is also possible that the circuit from the key reader to the BCM is faulty or the BCM itself, but this is much less likely than the other causes i've mentioned.
